Rainbow Mix Heirloom Swiss Chard features leaves that are different shades of green and the stems are different shades of gold, crimson, pink, pink-and-white striped, purple, orange, scarlet, white and green. Young leaves are suitable for salads. Cook mature leaves briefly as prolonged cooking fades the colors.

Swiss chard growing info:

  Swiss chard is known as a heat tolerant alternative to spinach, high in Vitamin A, Vitamin K and Vitamin C.  It prefers to grow in full sun but can tolerate partial shade during the summer time.  This is a green that can be grown all summer in the right conditions. Soak seeds before germination to help germination, as the shell to the seed is thick.  Plant ½ inch deep spaced about 12-18 inches apart.  Plant directly in the soil about 2-3 weeks before the average last frost date.  It’s a cold season crop that is ready to harvest in about 45 days from germination.  You can harvest outer leaves as they mature or wait and harvest all at once.  The ribs can be cooked like asparagus and the leaves can be eaten raw or cooked.  Staple in vegetarian diets.
