Basil growing info:
Basil is essential to every kitchen garden. It does best in full sun, spaced about 8-18 inches apart depending on the variety with constantly moist soil. It’s best to direct sow seeds in rich loamy soil at ¼ inch. Plants can be transplanted without problem, started 4-6 weeks early indoors before average last date of frost. You can harvest leaves as soon as there are enough to harvest. This can be used for a flavorful microgreen option, for example. Even the seedlings are edible but for plants you want to last allow them to become established before harvesting. Keep basil sweet by pinching off any flowering buds when you see them. They do not care for cooler weather, so plant in a container and move indoors in cold climates.
