Sunflower growing info:
Although sunflowers are known for their yellow color, they actually come in many different colors, and a couple different growing styles. Most are tall, with a single stalk and flower, while others are more bushy with multiple flowers. For annual varieties plant every couple of weeks to ensure a constant supply. Sunflowers can be ornamental, both as landscape and cut flowers. They can also be used for food, for both us and our birds.
Sunflowers are easy to grow, and a great starter plant. They will grow with poor soil, however they really appreciate good soil with compost, or a tomato type fertilizer. Direct sow is recommended, if you must transplant use larger pots and be very careful. Plant after fear of frost, and keep watered. In very windy areas staking may be required, as they get very tall.
