Broccoli growing info:
Broccoli that you eat is actually the premature flowering head of the plant! You can plant directly ½ inch deep and spaced 24 inches apart or start indoors and transplant outdoors when the frost lifts. Broccoli when established is very frost tolerant but not at all heat tolerant. Amend the soil with compost and keep regularly watered for best results. With too much heat it will flower and be too bitter to enjoy. If this happens, just allow to go to seed and collect seeds for another attempt. Harvest about 57 days after the seed sprouts, keep an eye on it daily and harvest in the morning for best results. It prefers full sun but only in the early or late part of the season. Avoid growing broccoli in the middle of summer, for example.
