Okra is incredibly rich in Vitamin A and grows some of the most beautiful flowers you will ever see.  It grows best in full hot sun and is pretty intolerant to frost. If there’s danger of frost, cover with a frost blanket to protect the foliage.  Plant seeds directly for best results or in peat plugs so you disturb the brittle roots as little as possible during transplanting.  Where necessary, plant 3-4 weeks indoors before last frost date.  Plant seeds 1 inch deep and space plants about 10-18 inches apart depending on the variety.  Harvest often when the pods are from 2-4 inches long.  Okra can tolerate many kinds of soil, but will produce the most in a rich well draining soil. Keep consistently moist, especially during times of flowering and pod production for best results.  Okra can withstand drought, just know that yield will be impacted.
