Pumpkin growing info:

Pumpkins require a lot of care but can be a lot of fun and incredibly rewarding to grow! These can be started indoors 6-8 weeks before average last frost date and very carefully transplanted outside after the threat of frost has passed.  Plant 1 inch deep in peat pots to reduce transplant shock as much as possible.  Be very careful to damage neither roots or vine while transplanting or this will drastically impact yield.  In colder climates starting indoors is somewhat essential.  Remove any blossoms that appear before 50 days to encourage proper vine growth. The longer the vine, the higher the yield and bigger the fruit.  Pumpkins are greedy for both nutrients and water.  Add compost and water often for the best results.  Add mulch or straw or cardboard under forming fruits to avoid rot. Take care to not damage vines when caring for the plant and while watering avoid water on the leaves to help keep powdery mildew away.  They’re usually ready to harvest by mid fall but make sure to harvest them all before the first frost or they won’t store well.
